Dr. Asowata-Ayodele is a trailblazer in ethnobotanical documentation. She was the first scientist to comprehensively catalogue and analyze the indigenous spices used in the Nkonkobe Municipality of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. This pioneering research not only preserved invaluable cultural knowledge but also revealed the nutraceutical functions of several local spices, many of which were previously overlooked in scientific literature. Her work continues to serve as a reference point for scholars in Ethno-pharmacology and has created a foundation for developing plant-based interventions for preventive health. Equally significant is her role as an academic mentor and supervisor. Dr. Asowata-Ayodele has successfully supervised and co-supervised postgraduate students in diverse areas of natural product chemistry, pharmacognosy and eco-phytotherapy. Under her guidance, students have conducted rigorous research leading to publications in reputable journals and conference presentations at both national and international levels. Her mentorship goes beyond academic rigour; she cultivates critical thinking, instills scientific ethics and encourages translational research that addresses real-world health challenges. Through this, she has contributed immensely to building capacity and strengthening the next generation of phytomedicine researchers in Nigeria and beyond. Her scholarly contributions extend into applied science and community development. As the founder of Asobotanique Herbal Company, Nigeria. she has translated her research into safe, evidence-based herbal teas and nutraceutical products that address pressing health concerns such as hypertension, stress management and immune support. These products not only improve community health outcomes but also create employment and promote the sustainable use of indigenous plants. Her ability to bridge laboratory research with community impact reflects the very essence of translational phytomedicine.
